More Aldi shoppers will soon be able to stock up on groceries without leaving the car.

After completing a pilot in select markets, the discount grocer says it is adding curbside pickup to nearly 600 stores in 35 states by the end of July.

"We are always looking for ways to make the ALDI shopping experience even more convenient and accessible for everyone," Aldi CEO Jason Hart said in a news release Thursday. "Whether shopping in-store, or online for delivery or pickup, we'll continue to be here to safely serve our customers."

Curbside pickup has grown in popularity recently as shoppers try to make fewer trips to stores during the coronavirus pandemic.

However, the added convenience can come at a price. Aldi, well known for its low prices, says its groceries will cost more than what shoppers would pay in store.

Aldi uses Instacart, the on-demand grocery shopping service, for both curbside orders and deliveries.

"The in-store price of a particular item at the time a purchase is made, including for weighted items, may differ from what is available through the Instacart platform," Aldi says in its frequently asked questions about the program. "Additional fees apply to online orders."

Aldi also notes a "small pickup fee will be applied to each order to offset the costs of Curbside shopping."

Aldi's curbside pickup works like Walmart and other grocery retailers where you select a an available pickup time and location before checking out. Stores also have designated parking spots for curbside pickup.

In 2017, Aldi started a grocery delivery pilot, which it expanded and now includes alcohol and Aldi Finds, where the retailer features limited-time items.

Shoppers now have access to online grocery delivery in 10,000 ZIP codes nationwide.

Find stores offering curbside pickup online, or on the Aldi or Instacart apps to search by ZIP codes. Aldi also lists the participating locations at www.aldi.us, which will be updated as new locations are added weekly.
