First Iowa corn rating is 81 percent good to excellent

The first condition rating of the season for Iowa corn rates 81 percent of the crop as good to excellent.

As of Sunday, corn emergence was at 82 percent, an improvement of 20 percentage points from the previous week.

Soybean planting stood at 92 percent complete statewide. However, the report notes that farmers in southwest Iowa still had over 25 percent of their soybeans left to plant.

Fifty-two percent of the soybean crops has emerged, compared to the 25 percent average.

The good to excellent ratings for hay and pastures were 73 percent and 66 percent, respectively.
