Tennessee crops: 39% soybeans and 47% cotton planted

Wet conditions put Tennessee farmers further behind in their planting progress on corn, cotton, and soybeans.  In fact, some farmers are considering switching their cotton acres to soybeans at this point.  A few hay producers were able to squeeze in some hay cuttings, but most were kept out by wet conditions.

Eighty-six percent of the state’s corn crop has been planted, 71 percent emerged, and 67 percent is rated good to excellent. 

Thirty-nine percent of soybeans have been planted and 21 percent of the crop has emerged.  Forty-seven percent of the cotton crop has been planted.  Forty-six percent of the wheat crop is coloring, and 59 percent of the crop is rated good to excellent.

Sixty-eight percent of pastures are rated good to excellent.

Some vegetable crops were damaged from the previous week’s cold snap. 

99 percent of Topsoil and 99 percent of Subsoil are called adequate to surplus.
