NEWSPhotos: Adoptable cats, dogs, rabbits, turtle, guinea pigs at York County SPCA May 26 Paul Kuehnelpkuehnel@ydr.comHammer an adult Pit Bull Terrie is a solid chunk of love that really enjoys belly rubs! Hammer is a very friendly, happy guy that is relatively calm and easygoing. He knows sit and loves treats. Unfortunately, Hammer was recently returned to the shelter through no fault of this own (change in housing circumstances). The good news is that his previous family could provide a little more info about him in a household setting. Hammer is reportedly crate-trained. He was very tolerant of living with a 4-yr old child. He also loves to play ball but is overall pretty low energy. His only fear was of the vacuum or really loud noises. Hammer is a strong fella that could use help with his pulling tendencies on leash. We recommend that Hammer either be the only dog in the home, or he could perhaps live with a submissive female dog (subject to case by case evaluation). Hammer is a very lovable guy that's ready to find his forever home. He is patiently waiting to meet you and will surely make you smile! #134867York County SPCABlue is a red ear slider turtle who loves to swim and loves the feeling of the filter water running on his shell. AFS# 135845York County SPCAMiriam is a very affectionate and loving senior girl who is front declawed. She loves attention and cuddles, and would make a perfect lap cat. She is a bit hesitant of other cats, so a slow, patient introduction or being the only cat may be best. #135778York County SPCAValentine a female is pretty social and outgoing. She is a senior guinea pig who needs a nice home for her golden years. Valentine is bonded with Brownie: AFS# 135824. AFS# 135825York County SPCABrownie is a female guinea pig who likes to lay in her hut and can be a bit vocal. She is pretty sweet and social. This senior guinea pig needs a nice home for her golden years. Brownie is bonded with Valentine: AFS# 135825. AFS# 135824York County SPCAMeet Remington - a 16 month old belgian malinois and blue heeler mix that is highly active and very intelligent. Recently, during one of his afternoon walks with a volunteer at the shelter, Remington came across the newspaper out front by the mailbox, so he promptly picked it up, adjusted his walking route, and carried the paper to the front door of the shelter all on his own! Activities like agility or nosework would be a lot of fun with Remington. He is attentive and food motivated. He already knows sit, lay down, and crawl. Remington could use some help improving his leash etiquette. He thoroughly enjoys exploring the walking trails at the shelter, and he will make an excellent partner for hiking in the woods or exploring local parks. Remington will do best in home with similar breed experience that is able to provide the structure, training, exercise, and mental stimulation that he deserves. Remington is reportedly both house-trained and crate-trained. He loves to play with toys including chews, balls, ropes, and sticks; but he does have a tendency to resource guard high value items. Remington previously lived with children around 12 yrs old, and he was reportedly playful but rambunctious. We recommend that he only live with children over the age of 12. Other dogs would need to be evaluated on a case by case basis. He has a tendency to be vocal around other dogs at the shelter, but his previous owner said he got along well with other dogs. This handsome fella knows there is more to life than lounging around, so please consider making Remington your adventure companion! #135863York County SPCAWade Walker, a 1-year-old male, is a very energetic and playful boy. AFS# 135710York County SPCAIntroducing ASTRO...a big, outgoing guy that is ready for some fun! Astro is fairly young and very energetic, so he could use some help with his manners and obedience training. He already knows sit and paw. Astro loves entertaining himself with feeding toys/chews, and he is very food motivated which will be great for training. He weighs about 95 lbs. He loves to play but can be rambunctious, so we feel that a home with children over the age of 10 would be best. We do not yet know how Astro feels about other dogs or cats. #135835York County SPCASnow is an extremely loving and affectionate 5-year-old girl. She loves to be held and pet while in your arms. AFS# 135842York County SPCAPeanut, a 2-year-old female, is a little scared at first, but once she warms up to you, she is very sweet and cuddly. She loves to crawl into your lap and lay with you. Peanut can probably get a bit playful, but she doesn't show much of that side here. This girl is a little scared of other cats at first, but with time, she warms up. She has some hair loss on her tail, but it's nothing to worry about. If anything, it makes her more unique! AFS# 135781York County SPCAScalett is very sweet and social female adult rabbit.
