Hard work pays off and it’s no different with your rowing training. However, if you are looking to improve on the water, you need to invest in your workouts. That said, how do you know if you are getting the most out of your sessions? Luckily, the latest smartphone rowing apps do just that! We’ve scouted the iTunes and Google Play stores to bring you a roundup of what we feel are some of the best apps on the market right now.

These are the five Rowing Apps you should not miss:

  1. Talos Rowing

At present this app is only available for Android.

By mounting your phone to your boat, you can measure various useful stats, such as speed, stroke-rate, distance, and more.

Current version: 0.9.6.214 Android

  1. RitmoTime

At this time only available for Apple products with iOS 5 or later.

This is the iPhone alternative to Talos Rowing, which features all the same metrics, plus compatibility with heart rate monitoring devices.

  1. RP3 Erg Data

Available on Android only. Mounts to your RP3 ergometer. With more than 20 different data features to choose from, including speed, energy per stroke, distance per stroke, and much more!

  1. CrewNerd

CrewNerd was featured on our blog.

Available on both Android and iOS, CrewNerd combines the analytical data supplied in the other apps, with a ‘live’ feature. This allows coaches and spectators to track your performance, as it happens.

The free, trial mode version on Android is limited to 100 strokes or 5-minute sessions but can be unlocked for $US1.99 per month. Apple users must purchase the full version at $US49.99.

Current version: 1.7.0 Android, 4.52 iOS.

  1. Rowing in Motion

In fact, this rowing app, featured on our blog, is perhaps the most complete app available on the market right now. Rowing in Motion contains all of the analytic features of other apps mentioned above. What sets it apart is the ability to upload and store session data. In addition, data can be automatically synchronized alongside a video, to provide a more complete analysis of performance.

Available on both Android and iOS, users can choose between the solo

(free) app or the club/team (paid) app depending on the level of involvement.

Full prices range from $US83 – $US130 or €249 – €499 per year.
