Employee at York County Sheetz tests positive for coronavirus, store re-opens

Update: The Arsenal Road location is now re-opened. The store and gas pumps were disinfected and sanitized by professional cleaning crews following the store closure on Wednesday, April 29.

Employees who had direct contact with the COVID-19 positive employee will be quarantined for up to 14 days and will be paid in full during the quarantine period.The location has now re-opened, according to Sheetz representatives.

An employee at the 215 Arsenal Road Sheetz store in York County tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, April 29. The store was closed and will be disinfected and sanitized before re-opening, according to a statement from Sheetz public relations manager Nick Ruffner.

This is the first positive test for a Sheetz employee in York County. Following the re-opening of the store, all employees will have mandatory temperature checks prior to their shift start times, Ruffner said.

“Sheetz has been informed that an employee at our store location on Arsenal Road in York, PA has tested positive for COVID-19. The employee last worked on Thursday, April 23, 2020. Since the beginning of this crisis, we have been focused on the health and wellness of our customers and employees. Because of this positive test, this store location is closed immediately and will be professionally deep cleaned and disinfected before reopening. Our gas pumps will also be sanitized and cleaned.

We are taking an abundantly cautious approach, working with all employees who may have had close contact with this employee as well as with the Pennsylvania Department of Health. All employees will be fully paid while this store remains closed. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this closure and will continue to prioritize the well-being of our customers and employees as we join the nation in navigating this unprecedented health crisis."

Sheetz operates 294 locations throughout Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.

Correction: An earlier version of this article stated the employee tested postive on Thursday, April 23. That was incorrect, the employee last worked on April 23 and had tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, April 29.
