On Thursday, one person tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, according to the Joint Information Center, bringing Guam's total to 136.

The Department of Public Health and Social Services tested 22 people with conclusive results. One tested positive and 21 tested negative. The Guam Memorial Hospital Authority also tested 10 patients and all 10 tested negative, according to the JIC.

Profiles of the 136 COVID-19 cases include three probable cases (formerly called clinically diagnosed cases), reports of 11 confirmed positive cases received from the U.S. Naval Hospital that were tested by the Naval Health Research Center in San Diego, and five confirmed positive cases through Diagnostic Laboratory Services.

Report: 40 sailors from carrier in Guam tested negative, then tested positive for COVID-19

The number of recovered patients rose from the day before, from 86 to 97 as of April 17, according to Joint Information Center.

A patient is no longer considered infectious when:

  • 72 hours have passed without fever or additional respiratory issues, and
  • at least seven days have passed since symptoms first appeared,

To date, there are 136 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with five deaths and 97 recoveries. Of the 33 patients in isolation as of 5 p.m. April 17, 27 are stable and six are hospitalized, according to the release.

Ten days ago, Guam's number of patients who tested positive was at 125, while the number of recovered patients was 31.

DPHSS Launches COVID-19 Dashboard

Public Health also launched a COVID-19 Dashboard, according to the latest JIC release.

The information management tool displays real-time updates on case counts, confirmed cases, and probable cases (formerly referred to as clinically diagnosed) in Guam. The DPHSS Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity Program also shares data by village and cumulative cases. Village counts include anyone in that municipality who has tested positive, whether their infection is active or resolved.

Village data is informative but should not be used to determine whether residents of a particular village are at risk of COVID-19. Dashboard tabs show the demographic breakdown of cases, including age and gender. Datasets protect the private health information of COVID-19 positive individuals.

To access the COVID-19 Dashboard and for the latest information about the Guam response to COVID-19, visit the DPHSS website at www.dphss.guam.gov/covid-19/ . The Dashboard is currently only viewable on desktop.
