Man accused of hitting woman until she was unconscious after he tried to force himself on her

STUART — A man was accused of trying to force himself on a woman and then beating her until she lost consciousness Sunday morning.

Darcy McIrvin, 29, of the 1000 block of Southeast Clayton Street in Stuart was charged with battery causing great bodily harm, exposure of sexual organs, false imprisonment and resisting arrest without violence.

Around 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Martin County Sheriff's Office deputies said they got a call regarding a sexual assault in the 4200 block of Southeast Cove Road in Stuart.

Deputies said when they arrived, they found a woman with the left side of her face "extremely swollen, bruised and cut."

The woman told deputies she was walking west on Southeast Ellendale Street in Stuart when McIrvin asked her for sexual favors and she refused.

McIrvin became angry and threw her to the ground, pulled her into a bush and tried to force himself on her. The woman told deputies she was able to get out of his grasp and run, according to McIrvin's arrest affidavit.

The woman told deputies McIrvin ran after her, threw his bike at her and then beat her head multiple times until she lost consciousness.

The woman was driven to Cleveland Clinic Martin South Hospital and treated for her injuries, according to McIrvin's arrest affidavit.

Deputies found McIrvin at a nearby gas station. McIrvin told deputies, "I'm going to remember you when I get out.

McIrvin was taken to the Martin County Jail. Bond was set at  $30,500.
