Police investigating body found along Big Sioux River

Authorities responded to an incident along the Big Sioux River on Sunday afternoon, blocking off a portion of the bike trail north of Sixth Street.

Sioux Falls police say they're still investigating after a body was found along the Big Sioux River at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Several police officers were at the scene just north of Sixth Street along the Big Sioux River as of 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

"We really don't have any information at this point in time," police spokesman Sam Clemens said Monday during his daily police briefing with media. 

The call about the body came in after people spotted it while they were out walking, he said. 

"We don't have any identification that's been made," he said. 

Police are waiting for the coroner's office to determine the cause of death, which could come later this week, he said.
