No new deaths from COVID-19 in reported in Greater Lansing

Correction: Ingham County health officials Monday said a second death reported by state health officials was a Detroit-area resident who was treated locally. Only one person in Ingham County as died from the virus, as of Sunday.

LANSING – State health officials Sunday reported no new deaths from COVID-19 in Greater Lansing.

Ingham County had its first patient die from the novel coronavirus last week. Two people have died in Eaton County and one in Clinton County, according to the most recent figures. 

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Sunday reported 77 new deaths from the virus, for a statewide total of 617.

Two Detroit-area residents have died in Lansing area hospitals, state health officials have reported.

The state confirmed seven new coronavirus cases in the Lansing area on Sunday as the statewide total climbed to 15,718.

Ingham County reported 172 cases, Eaton County reported 55 cases, Clinton County reported 55 cases.

Symptoms of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, include fever, cough and shortness of breath. The state health department says symptoms can appear up to 14 days after exposure to the virus.

People should first contact their health care provider if they think they are sick before going to a clinic or hospital.

There are steps residents can take to prevent spread of flu and the common cold that will also help prevent COVID-19, including:

  • Wash your hands with soap and water.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or upper sleeve when coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home if you are sick and contact your healthcare provider.
