SW Minnesota farmer on spring fieldwork, COVID-19

A farmer in southwest Minnesota is optimistic about fieldwork beginning in his area by mid-April.

Bryan Biegler grows corn and soybeans in Murray County.

“I think if we had a week, week and a half of nice weather I wouldn’t be surprised to see some guys scratching around a little bit. But we’ve probably got at least a couple weeks before we can get going fairly safely.”

He tells Brownfield so far, the COVID-19 pandemic hasn’t been disruptive to his operation.

“Things have kind of been going normally. We’re still out here working, getting things ready to go. And picking up some seed, getting chemicals lined up and stuff. So as of now, it hasn’t been a big change yet for us.”

Biegler strip-tills his corn and says the cover crop he’ll be planting into has started to green up.

Biegler is treasurer of the Minnesota Corn Growers Association.
