Sean Baek, a UWM freshman, went missing Feb. 14, 2020. His body was found in the Milwaukee River on March 30, 2020.

The body of 18-year-old Sean Michael Baek, a missing University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee student, was found Monday in the Milwaukee River, authorities said Tuesday.

According to the Milwaukee County medical examiner's report, the Milwaukee Fire Department received a call about an unidentified man in the Milwaukee River near the intersection of North Commerce and North Fratney streets about 5 p.m. Monday and found a body under a pier.

Baek had been missing since Feb. 14 when, police say, he took LSD with a roommate; both reacted badly to the drug and Baek ran from his dorm at UW-Milwaukee Cambridge Commons at 2323 N. Cambridge Ave.

Baek's mother Kristin Erickson released a statement on behalf of the family saying they are "devastated."

"He did not commit suicide. He loved life. He loved college. He loved his friends. He loved his family. And he still does," Erickson wrote. "We will have a celebration of his life when we can all get together properly. In the meantime, we love you all and appreciate all of your thoughts, your prayers and your love."

The university also released a statement:

"We are saddened by the news of Sean’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends who, like us, have held out hope that he would be found alive."
