Congress passes, Trump signs COVID-19 bill

The U.S. House has passed the coronavirus stimulus bill by voice vote. Many members rose in support of the CARES bill today, passed earlier by the Senate, that contains a number of agriculture provisions. Congressman Bill Huizenga of Michigan not only thanked health care workers on the front lines but those who feed the world, “Thank you for the farmers, the food processor, the truck drivers and those stocking the shelves to make sure that goods are available in this time of need.”

Congressman Ted Lieu of California says the agriculture provisions are greatly needed, “As the representative of the top ag district in the top ag state I’m proud this bill shores up vital safety net programs for our farmers, ranchers and their families.”

Congressman Mike Bost of Illinois says COVID19 is a threat across the country, “Even in rural southern Illinois there are 27 cases in my district.”

President Trump signed the bill this afternoon.
