Looking for some gorgeous blue paint colors? I’m sharing readers’ top 10 favorites!
When you think of neutral paint colors, whites, beiges, and grays are probably the ones that come to mind. In many ways, blue paint colors could also be added to that “neutrals” list. It’s one of the easiest colors to decorate with because it works so well with almost every other color. Whether it’s green, yellow, orange, or gray, blue pairs with it beautifully.
Blue also has a cool, calming vibe that I love. It’s for all of these reasons that I find myself gravitating toward blue when choosing rugs, bedding, wallpaper,
and other decor. I’ve also considered painting our guest room walls blue. After getting so many helpful suggestions from you when I asked for your favorite greige paint colors, I decided to ask about your favorite blue paint colors too!
I compiled the 500+ recommendations you shared via Instagram and Facebook and am sharing the ten blue paint colors that topped this most-loved list. These are reader’ go-to colors that you have used, love, and would recommend to others! (post includes affiliate links; full disclosure statement available {here})
Your Favorite Blues
I’m sharing your favorite blues in order from darkest to lightest, using each paint color’s LRV (Light Reflectance Value) as my guide. The lower the LRV, the darker the paint color will look and feel once up on the wall.
The amount of light, the direction your room faces, and the furnishings in the room all have a big impact on how a paint color will look in your space. That’s why I strongly recommend that you get large peel and stick paint samples to see how the color looks in your own home before making paint color decisions. Be sure to read my post on how to choose paint colors for more details and tips! Now let’s get to it…
1. Sherwin Williams Naval (6244) LRV: 4
We’re kicking things off with a blue paint color that many of you have probably heard of before. Sherwin Williams named Naval their paint color of the year in 2020 and it’s still a reader favorite! It’s a beautiful deep navy that looks stunningly rich on walls and cabinetry:
It’s the darkest of the blues on my list with an LRV that’s even lower than that of the blackened gray paint color (Benjamin Moore Nightfall) that I used on the walls of our home office.

2. Farrow & Ball Hague Blue (No. 30) LRV: 7
Hague Blue is a paint color by Farrow & Ball, who is known for the richness of their paint colors. It’s described as a deep and dramatic blue with green undertones. If you want your room to have a moody-but-not-gloomy feel, this is the color for you! This living room from House on the Way is a stunning example:
The wall color looks as rich as the dark velvet couch in front of it! See more beautiful interiors and DIYs from House on the Way on Instagram {here}.
I had to cheat and share one more pic of this gorgeous paint color because this holiday mantel took my breath away!

3. Benjamin Moore Gentleman’s Gray (2062-20) LRV: 7.26
While you might not expect it from this paint color’s name, Benjamin Moore’s Gentleman’s Gray is definitely more of a blue than a gray. Specifically, it’s a blackened blue with just a touch of teal in it. A beautiful example of Gentleman’s Gray is on the walls of Bree of ZDesign at Home’s exquisite guest room:
You can see more of Bree’s guest room and get room source on her blog {here}.
4. Sherwin Williams Indigo Batik (7602) LRV: 8
Indigo Batik is exactly the shade of blue paint color that you’d expect from its name – the beautiful indigo color that’s typical with batik fabrics. It may be a little too vibrant for some on all four walls of a room, but in smaller doses, it’s definitely a winner! How spectacular is this nursery by Michelle of @designed.by.belle where the front layer of painted mountains is done in Indigo Batik?!
In case you were wondering, the other two blues she used are Sherwin-Williams Bracing Blue and Aleutian. You can see more of Michelle’s beautiful home designs on her Instagram account @designed.by.belle {here}.
5. Benjamin Moore Hale Navy (HC-154) LRV: 8.36
Hale Navy was the #1 most recommended blue paint color from everyone who shared their favorite! It’s a gorgeous, deep shade of blue that I’ve loved in every room I’ve seen it in.
Sarah of Life on Virginia Street used this favorite blue on the walls of her home office. It’s absolutely perfect paired with her beautiful wall molding:
And it works beautifully with wood tones and whites, doesn’t it?! You can check out more of Sarah’s office and get sources for everything in this space on her blog {here}.
6. Benjamin Moore Van Courtland Blue (HC-145) LRV: 31.47
Van Courtland Blue is described by Benjamin Moore as a decorative Old World blue that works equally well in more contemporary spaces. Looking at it on the color strip, it definitely has a more traditional vibe than the other paint colors on my list, but it looks anything but dated on the cabinetry in this laundry room designed by Stephanie Gamble:
Fabulous, right?! To see more of Stephanie’s beautiful designs, you can find her on Instagram {here}.
7. Benjamin Moore Beach Glass (1564) LRV: 49.7
Beach Glass is described as a calming blue with a gray undertone (but it actually looks more green than blue to my eye!). It’s been a popular color for many years now and is a top choice for bedrooms because of its serene vibe. This beautiful bedroom design by Jennifer Davenport is a great example:
Check out Jennifer’s other design projects on her Instagram account Jennifer Decorates {here}.
8. Sherwin Williams Krypton (SW6247) LRV: 52
Krypton is described by Sherwin Williams as a light, atmospheric blue with a slate gray undertone. It looks absolutely stunning on this built in wall of cabinetry:
I’m going to be replacing the shelving in our laundry room with cabinetry, and, after seeing this, Krypton is high on my list of possible paint colors for our cabinets! Melissa has a knack for choosing beautiful paint colors for all of her room designs too – check them out on Oho Interiors on Instagram {here}.
9. Benjamin Moore Smoke (2122-40) LRV: 56.39
Benjamin Moore Smoke is one of the two blues that wasn’t on my radar for great blue paint colors until after some of you recommended it. After seeing it in use, I am in LOVE! You can see it in action on the cabinetry in Jillian Harris’ amazing laundry room:
It’s definitely a color I’d love to try in my home – maybe on my daughters’ bathroom vanity?! You can find more pics and details of this beautiful laundry room on Jillian’s blog {here}.
10. Benjamin Moore Palladian Blue (HC-144) LRV: 60.4
Palladian Blue has been on my must-try-some-day list for front door colors. It’s a gorgeous soft greenish blue (this is another color that’s called a blue but my eyes see it as more green!). Laura of Laura Murphy Interiors painted the front door of her beautiful home with Palladian Blue and I couldn’t love it more:

And with that, our list of top ten blue paint colors is a wrap! I do have one last blue paint color to share that I’ve personally used (and love!) but didn’t make the list..
Behr Blueprint (S470-5) LRV: 20
Blueprint was Behr’s color of the year for 2019 and the color I chose for an accent wall in my youngest daughter’s bedroom:
Room Sources: Gold quatrefoil pendant | DIY upholstered headboard | Moroccan leather poufs | White linen quilt | Other bedding no longer available
It’s a great medium-toned blue with a bright feel! And it so worked well with all of the other boho bedroom colors that I used in the room.
