Coronavirus: Franklin County organizations issue cancellations, changes in wake of COVID-19

Organizations in Franklin County have announced event cancellations, facility closures and other changes as Pennsylvania and the nation fight the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Capitol Theatre: Closed to the general public, all events scheduled through May 3 are canceled or postponed. Current ticket holders and rental groups will be contacted. 

Chambersburg government: Borough Council's regular meeting on Monday, March 23, is canceled. Borough Manager Jeffrey Stonehill tweeted that there will be a "private executive session meeting on March 30 with short necessary public item at 6 pm, but next full regular public Town Council meeting is scheduled for April 6 at 7 pm" in Borough Hall.

Chambersburg Recreation Department: All swimming lessons to be held Saturday, March 14, at Brookview (Menno Haven) pool are canceled. Other programs this weekend are still on. 

Franklin/Fulton Court of Common Pleas: The 39th Judicial District will maintain regular hours; however, visitors are encouraged to follow this guidance:

  • Limit visitors. Any person who is required to attend a court proceeding or must visit a court facility should limit the number of people with them. 
  • Stay home if you are feeling sick. If you are required by court order to appear at a proceeding of any type, but you are not feeling well, notify the court administration office (717-261-3848) of your illness. If you are represented by an attorney, ask him or her to notify the court of your condition and ask that you be excused in advance; alternate methods such as video or teleconference may be permitted. Each case will be decided by the court on a case-by-case basis. 
  • Practice good hygiene. Refrain from shaking hands and other physical contact. Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer regularly. Properly cover your coughs and sneezes, and avoid touching your face. 

Franklin County Historical Society: The meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 26, has been postponed. A new date will be posted online at www.franklinhistorical.org when it is scheduled.

Franklin County Jail: All social and contact professional visits are suspended for 30 days as of March 17. All non-essential meetings, volunteer programs, and contractor visits are cancelled. In addition, all those entering the facility will undergo temperature checks prior to entering the facility.

Franklin County Penn State Extension: All Penn State Extension sponsored events, workshops and meetings have been canceled through Monday, April 6.

Franklin County Rep. Rob Kauffman Office: Walk-in service suspended at district offices in Chambersburg and Shippensburg.  Kauffman’s staff will still be available to assist residents over the telephone or online with any state government-related matter.

Greencastle-Antrim Education Foundation: The Daddy Daughter Dance scheduled for Friday, March 27, has been postponed. A new date to be announced in the next few weeks. All tickets sold will be honored for the new day.

Greencastle-Antrim Baseball/Softball Association: All league activities from March 13 and through April 6 are canceled. This includes all practices, games and league meetings. All G-ABSA fields will be closed to organized practices.

Greater Waynesboro Chamber of Commerce: The Nite at the Races scheduled for Saturday, March 14, has been canceled.

Knights of Columbus: All events canceled until further notice, per the state's mandate that non-essential businesses suspend operations. 

Penn State Mont Alto: All non-essential events canceled or rescheduled through Monday, April 6. 

Rep. Paul Schemel's town hall: The Thursday, March 19, event on veterans' issues is postponed; date to be determined.

Rising Hope Church's beef pot pie supper: The event scheduled for March 28 in Shippensburg has been postponed until further notice. 

Shippensburg University: All face-to-face university classes and events are suspended through Saturday, April 11. This includes all shows at the H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center.  

Tax Aide Program: The AARP has suspended its free tax-preparation program, indefinitely, beginning Monday, March 16. 

Waynesboro Area YMCA: The Y facility will be closed to members effective Sunday, March 15 at 5 p.m.

WellSpan Results Fitness: 1600 Orchard Drive, Chambersburg, will be closed March 16-30. After March 30, WellSpan will reassess operational hours based on guidance from state officials. Gym members can find additional information and stay up to date on hours of operation by visiting the Results Fitness Facebook page or by calling 717-262-4650.

WellSpan Fast Care: 993 Wayne Ave., Chamersburg, will close at the end of business on March 16. The public should go to their family doctor or an urgent care instead. 

WellSpan Convenient Care: Locations at Wilson College and Waynesboro Area Senior High School will be closed until further notice beginning March 17.

Wilson College: All on-campus events where 75 or more people may attend will not be held beginning Friday, March 13. Will be re-evaluated March 27. 

Wilson College's Orr Forum: The Thursday, March 26, event featuring Amy-Jill Levine, author and Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies at Vanderbilt University, has be rescheduled to Sept. 25.
