Police spokesman Sam Clemens goes over the call log and identifies the victim in a recent shooting in Sioux Falls.

Police say the attempted kidnapping of a 14-year-old Thursday afternoon never happened.

Several hours after Friday morning's daily police briefing, spokesperson Sam Clemens sent an update out to media about the case, stating detectives found different surveillance video that showed the area where the attempted kidnapping allegedly took place.

After reviewing the footage, officers realized there was no car that stopped when a 14-year-old girl alleged a man tried to grab her. Nor did anybody try to grab her, Clemens said.

The Minnehaha County State's Attorney's Office will be reviewing the case to determine whether any charges related to making a false police report will be filed, he said.

The 14-year-old girl was walking home from school about 4 p.m. in an alley between Nesmith and Franklin Avenues near Sixth Street when she said she was approached by a man driving a white four-door car, Clemens initially said at the briefing.

The girl told police the man got out of his vehicle, walked up to her and tried to pull her into the car. She said she fought the man and ran to a relative's house nearby, Clemens said at the time.
