Santa Ana winds gust through Ventura County

Staff reports

Santa Ana winds are expected to linger in Ventura County through Wednesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

The agency issued a wind advisory from 7 a.m. Tuesday to 3 p.m. Wednesday with predictions of northeast winds at 15 to 25 mph and gusts between 35 and 40 mph.

The weather agency said gusts would blow around unsecured objects and make driving difficult, especially for tall vehicles. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages were possible, the agency warned.

Amid gusts throughout the day Tuesday, the weather agency expected winds to diminish in the afternoon and evening hours, then strengthen once again after midnight, lingering at advisory levels through Wednesday afternoon.

Due to offshore flow and high pressure, warm conditions prevailed Tuesday throughout Ventura County. The weather agency said many areas had already reached the mid- to upper 60s or low 70s before 9:30 a.m. Between 1 and 2 p.m., temperatures across Ventura County were hovering around 80 degrees.

The weather agency said that with no rain in sight, this month is set to go into the record books as the driest February on record in many parts of Southern California.

Climate:This may typically be the rainy season, but Ventura County is abnormally dry
