Police searching for suspect after man shot near south Lansing gas station
LANSING - A shooting outside a south Lansing gas station left a man injured Monday afternoon.
The shooting happened about 4:30 p.m. along South Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at Warwick Drive, south of Holmes Road.
Officers found the victim outside of a fast-food restaurant directly across the street from the gas station where shots apparently were fired, Lansing police Capt. Rob Backus said.
The 25-year-old man had non-life-threatening wounds, Backus said. He had been shot in the arm and leg and was conscious when police arrived, Public Information Director Robert Merritt said.
Police determined that the victim and two other people met in the 3600 block of South Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and got into a verbal argument that turned physical, Merritt said. All three ran from each other after the shooting.
The suspect is described as a young, black male with a thin build and long braided hair, wearing a black-and-red jacket, Merritt said. He's believed to be somewhere between 18 and 20 years old.
Police believe all three subjects knew each other prior to the shooting, and that it was not a random act.
Investigators taped off an area around the gas station, as well as the front of the restaurant where the victim was found.
Orange cones marked the locations of what appeared to be shell casings at the gas station. Officers also were searching an area behind a vacant restaurant on the other side of MLK.
