Suspect in Pittsburgh-area homicide arrested near Mercersburg after Amber Alert

Pennsylvania State Police helped apprehend a wanted person and a juvenile who was the subject of an Amber Alert from the Pittsburgh area Tuesday morning near Mercersburg.

The Connellsville Police Department in Fayette County had issued an Amber Alert for 16-year-old Damion Mickey, who was missing from the home where a homicide had been committed earlier Tuesday, according to The Herald-Standard newspaper in Uniontown, Pa.

Keith Scott Bradshaw, 31, of Everson, and Marjorie A. Jay, 37, of Connellsville, have both been charged in Fayette County with criminal homicide, criminal conspiracy to commit criminal homicide, kidnapping and criminal conspiracy to commit kidnapping, according to The Herald-Standard report.

A dozen or more state police cruisers were reported to have converged in the area northwest of Mercersburg on Pa. Route 16 around 9:45 a.m. The Amber Alert for Mickey was issued about 10 a.m. and canceled 30 minutes later after Mickey was located "in Chambersburg," according to The Herald-Standard article.

Trooper Megan Ammerman, public information officer for Troop H, which covers Franklin County, Pa., said in an email that a wanted individual and a juvenile were found during the 10 a.m. incident in Mercersburg. She said a male was taken into custody by state police and referred further inquiries to the Connellsville police.

Connellsville police could not be immediately reached for comment.

William Stewart, 52, of Connellsville, was shot to death in the city between 2 and 3 a.m. Tuesday, according to The Herald-Standard report. Stewart is the fiancé of Mickey’s mother, Heather Mickey.

Keith Scott Bradshaw, 31, of Everson, and Marjorie A. Jay, 37, of Connellsville, have both been charged in Fayette County with criminal homicide, criminal conspiracy to commit criminal homicide, kidnapping and criminal conspiracy to commit kidnapping, according to The Herald-Standard. 

Jay was arraigned and taken to the Fayette County Prison without bond. Bradshaw is awaiting arraignment, according to the newspaper.

Motorists and residents in the Greencastle area reported numerous state police cruisers and vehicles from other police departments traveling quickly through town around mid-morning. The police cars converged in the area of Smith's Implements, west of Mercersburg, according to photos posted on Facebook.

The Amber Alert had reported Mickey was allegedly abducted by Bradshaw, who was believed to be driving a white 2018 Chevrolet Malibu with a Pennsylvania registration.

Ammerman said the incident remains an active investigation, however state police was the assisting agency while Connellsville Police Department is the investigating department.

Heather Mickey told The Herald-Standard she was sleeping Tuesday morning when her dogs alerted her to danger in the house.

"I went to the back door, and that's when I found Bill lying on the ground," she said.

Stewart and Mickey had been dating for three years. On Valentine's Day, he asked her to marry him. She had an engagement ring on her finger as she held her head in her hands.

"I just can't believe this, you know?" she said.
