A Greencastle-Antrim Middle School teacher and her family have given a framed U.S. flag as a visual thank you to the Greencastle-Antrim School District for support during her husband’s deployment to Afghanistan and her daughter’s diagnosis with Lyme disease.

Lacey Fegan is in her 13th year as a sixth-grade language arts and science teacher. She also did her student-teaching in the district in 2001 with Angie Singer, who is now Greencastle-Antrim Primary School principal.

Her husband, Matt, a chief warrant officer 3, is on his third deployment with the U.S. Army, scheduled to come home in March.

Amid worries about her husband and determining treatments for 14-year-old Hailey, Fegan said, “We are truly blessed with the support from the Greencastle-Antrim School District and the Greencastle-Antrim Middle School family.”

She was joined for the presentation at the Feb. 6 school board meeting by daughters, Lexee, 9, as well as Hailey, and in-laws Nancy and Mark Fegan.

“For you generosity in supporting our family during Operation Freedom’s Sentinel Resolute Support, Chief Warrant Officer 3 (CW3) Fegan and the 401st Field Support Battalion of Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan would like to present a United States flag to the Greencastle-Antrim Middle School as a token of appreciation. The American flag represents the Armed Forces who have faithfully served in Afghanistan since 2001 and for the continuous efforts to safeguard our homeland. The 79th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron commissioned the flag on November 29, 2019, as it flew over the skies of Afghanistan on a United States Air Force F-16 Viper,” reads a letter from Matt and Lacey Fegan to Dr. Kendra Trail, G-A superintendent, and Mark Herman, middle school principal.

The framed flag now is displayed in the middle school lobby.
