Hop streetcar back on track after partially derailing on east side

Crews worked for four hours to return a Hop streetcar to its tracks after it partially derailed Thursday morning on the east side, authorities said.

No one was injured when the westbound streetcar went slightly off the tracks around 10 a.m., according to the Department of Public Works.

But the cold weather caused the city's equipment to malfunction when crews tried to reset the car. The Milwaukee Fire Department arrived at the scene to help out, using hydraulic equipment.

Shortly after 2 p.m. crews righted the car, and it returned to a maintenance facility.

During the ordeal other Hop cars ran a shorter route. The cause of the derailment is under investigation, according to the DPW.
