The City of Alamogordo authorized a Gross Receipts Investment Program, or GRIP, expenditure of about $20,700 in gross receipts taxes to be paid to White Sands Construction.

The funds would be used for construction at Fatwood Barbecue at 3199 N. White Sands Blvd.

The commission approved the GRIP agreement six votes for, none against. City Commissioner Dusty Wright abstained since his company worked on the project.

Alamogordo authorized about 16 GRIP projects since the GRIP ordinance was adopted in 2010.

The commission also updated the GRIP ordinance to require a business to turn in a GRIP application before the projects begin.

The City said with the new provision in the ordinance it would be better able to financially manage and plan GRIP projects.

The updates were approved unanimously.
