A Chambersburg man was arrested Saturday after an alleged robbery at a Sunoco gas station in Southampton Township a month earlier.

Marcello Monzon-Figueroa, 31, is charged with criminal attempt robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and more, according to court documents.

At approximately 6 p.m. on Jan. 7, state police responded to a Sunoco on Olde Scotland Road for reports of an attempted robbery with a firearm.

The suspect entered the store, pointed a black and silver handgun at the clerk and demanded money, according to police.

Before receiving any money or items from the store, the suspect fled toward I-81.

Monzon-Figueroa walked into the Chambersburg Police Department at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Feb. 8, a month later, to turn himself in for the robbery.

He was transported to the Chambersburg state police barracks for further questioning.

During the police interview, Monzon-Figueroa confirmed the details of the robbery and admitted to pointing a black and silver handgun at the clerk.

The defendant stated he "got scared" and fled the store before he could take any cash or items, according to court records.

Fleeing the area in his vehicle, Monzon-Figueroa noted he witnessed state police responding to the scene.

He also indicated he was wearing the same sweatshirt on the night of the robbery that he was wearing during the police interview.

Monzon-Figueroa was placed in Franklin County Jail on $150,000 bail.

He is scheduled to appear before Magisterial District Judge Duane Cunningham for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 18.
