It's been more than three years since his last NFL appearance, but Matt McGloin is back in the game in a big way.

The former Penn State quarterback made his XFL debut, scoring the team's first touchdown with a one-yard run and leading the New York Guardians to victory against the Tampa Bay Vipers on Sunday afternoon.

McGloin came to Penn State in 2008 as a walk-on and left in 2012 with a school-record 46 passing touchdowns, including 24 in his final year.

He went undrafted in 2013 and signed with the Raiders as a free agent. McGloin spent four seasons in Oakland and played in 13 games for the Raiders. And even though he wasn't played in a NFL game since 2016, he spent his preseason with the 2017 Super Bowl champion Eagles, and the 2018 preseason with the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes.

The Chiefs cut him in September 2018 and it looked like his professional career would be over.

That's where the XFL comes in. It's given him a chance to play once again, and he's trying to make it count.
