Grain bin fatality in central Minnesota

A farm accident has claimed the life of a 35-year old central Minnesota man.

The Stearns County Sherriff’s Office says Brandon Schaefer of Albany was reported missing Tuesday morning, and found dead a short time later in a grain bin about three-quarters full.

A preliminary investigation revealed Schaefer was working in the bin to loosen up frozen corn, when he fell in and was buried.

This is the fifth farm-related death in Minnesota this winter.

In December, three family members succumbed to toxic fumes from a grain silo near Alexandria.

And last week in Cass County, a nine-year old boy died after being accidentally pinned under the arms of a skid steer loader.
