CRP deadline a month away

USDA’s Farm Service Director has a message for farmers interested in the Conservation Reserve Program.

“We are only one month from the end of the general signup which is now an annual competitive opportunity for producers, where offers will continue to be ranked based on environmental factors,” says Richard Fordyce who testified before a House Ag Subcommittee Tuesday.

He explains why they chose February 28 as the cut-off, “We set this deadline to ensure decisions on acceptance are made in early spring, prior to planting, so farmers and ranchers can use best management practices on that ground in preparation for CRP.”

This is the 35th anniversary of CRP and the first general sign-up since 2016. CRP continuous signup is ongoing. Fordyce says a separate CRP grasslands sign-up will take place from March to May.
