Day trips are not permitted. You need overnight reservations to camp or stay in the Havasupai Lodge.

Camping permits go on sale on Feb. 1 each year and sell out quickly.

The trailhead (Hualapai Hilltop) is about 260 miles northwest of Phoenix and about 200 miles from Las Vegas.

The hike from the trailhead to the campground and first major waterfall, Havasu Falls, is 10 miles. Supai, with a general store and cafe in addition to the lodge, is 8 miles in.

Summer temperatures can top 100 degrees. Get an early start, dress in layers and bring plenty of water.

Hate to hike? Other options to Supai, on select days, include helicopter and horseback ride.

The mile-long campground is bookended by two major falls, Havasu Falls and Mooney Falls.

Hikers descend some tricky stairs to get to Mooney Falls.

Helicopter rides out are on a first come first served basis, with tribal members getting priority.
