EVANSVILLE, Ind. — A woman told police she found a hidden cell phone recording video in the bathroom of a Downtown Evansville restaurant Monday afternoon.

The woman was at Tres Reynas around 12:30 p.m. when she went to use the restroom, according to an Evansville Police Department report.

The alleged offender told her he needed to resupply the bathroom with paper towels before she used it.

"I went in. I kind of felt weird about it," the woman said in a recording of a 911 call obtained by the Courier & Press.

She tried to use the soap dispenser, but it reportedly wouldn't work.

She pushed harder, making the lid open, and a cell phone fell out, she told police.

The woman saw that she'd been recorded while in the restroom, according to the incident report. The video also reportedly showed the alleged offender setting up the phone.

The woman left the phone in the restroom and told a friend what happened.

"I should've taken it and ran with it. I didn't," she said in the 911 call. "I confronted this person about it, and he tried to defend it by saying that people had been stealing his paper towels and toilet paper."

The alleged offender tried to tell them nothing was on the phone, according to the police record.

The woman called 911 about an hour later.

On Tuesday afternoon Tres Reynas owner Marco Leon, through an interpreter, flatly denied there was a camera in the restroom.

Leon initially asked the C&P why it would run the story, saying it would bad for business.

EPD spokesman Sgt. Nick Winsett said the investigation is still open but declined to comment further.

Police haven't made any arrests.
