York County figure skater competes at U.S. Championships for the first time

Mia Eckels, a junior at Susquehannock High School, made her way to Greensboro, North Carolina, to compete at the 2020 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships this week.

The best of the best were on hand with skaters from across the country competing for a championship. 

The events started Tuesday and the final event will take place Sunday, Jan. 26.

She competed on Wednesday and finished 18th out of 18 skaters in the Short Program. On Thursday, she finished 11th out of 18 skaters in the Free Skate. 

Overall she placed 17th out of 18 skaters.

This is the first trip to the U.S. Championship for Mia. She qualified for the championships back in November, where she finished second at the Eastern Sectional Finals Hyannis, Mass.
