Two Sioux Falls businesses were honored for their commitment to delicious and ethical food at the Good Food Awards in San Francisco last weekend.

Coffea Roasterie's Ethiopia Dimtu Tero coffee blend and and Dagger & Arrow's Diablo Verde hot sauce both won in their respective categories. The awards are hosted annually by the Good Food Foundation and focuses on foods and drinks that taste good but are also socially and environmentally conscious.

"Their whole goal is to support farmers (and) producers, with an eye toward sustainability," said Coffea CEO Darin Kaihoi. "It's really cool because that's what we care about."

Andrew Fritz, Coffea's roaster, traveled to San Francisco to accept the award.

"It's very humbling," Fritz said. "We've always focused on better coffee and paying farmers well."

Dagger & Arrow posted on its Facebook page that both businesses were the first in the Dakotas to take home Good Food Awards in the 10 years they have been handed out.

The Ethiopia Dimtu Tero coffee is described as being a complex brew with berry, dark cherry and vanilla notes. The Diablo Verde sauce is a green Serrano pepper-based sauce with tomatillos, garlic and onion.
