Indianapolis police arrested a man in connection with the shooting of another man who had his child with him inside the car.

Around 5 p.m. Saturday, police responded to a call that someone was shot on Beachway Drive on the city's west side near the intersection of South Mickley Avenue and Rockville Road.

Officers found a gray SUV with a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Also inside the vehicle was the man's 6-year-old child, who was not injured.

The man was taken to the hospital for treatment. However, his medical condition is not known.

Detectives learned that the suspect's vehicle could be a Kia Optima. Officers spotted the car and after a short pursuit, took Devante Brown, 24, of Indianapolis, into custody.

After being interviewed by police, Brown was booked into Marion County Jail. His preliminary charges include assisting a criminal, auto theft, resisting law enforcement and theft, per online jail records.

Police continue to investigate and formal charges have yet to be filed.
