A man in a clown mask attempted to rob the Alamogordo Recreation Center

A man in a clown mask attempted to rob staff at the Alamogordo Family Recreation Center located at 1100 Oregon Avenue on Tuesday night.
According to a press release from the City of Alamogordo on Wednesday, the attempted robbery occurred at 7:30 p.m. while a youth basketball program was in progress.
Only staff were involved in the incident and Alamogordo Police were contacted immediately, according to the release.
"Facility staff handled the situation according to procedure and the robber left without further incident," the release states.
According to Alamogordo Police (APD), the man was described as approximately 6 feet tall, dressed in a gray jacket and black pants, wearing a white clown mask over his face.
The man brandished a firearm and requested money from facility staff, according to APD.
The man fled on foot before officers arrived and no one was injured in the incident.
APD Capt. David Kunihiro said nothing was taken from the scene of the crime and there are no suspects at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
