Ag leaders applaud Senate passage of USMCA

Positive feedback on the Senate’s passage of the US Mexico Canada Agreement is pouring out from agriculture groups and leaders.

Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue says with congressional consideration now complete, farmers and ranchers are eager to see the President sign the legislation and begin reaping the benefits of the agreement.

“Chapter by chapter, verse by verse, line by line this is an improved relationship for agriculture but also in the over greater economy.”

Farmers for Free Trade Co-Executive Director Angela Hoffmann says USMCA will provide important ag victories including “market access for poultry and dairy, provisions that require science-based decision making on trade, and advances in supporting 21^st century ag innovations.”

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley of Iowa says Republicans and Democrats alike should be proud of this accomplishment for the American people.

“The United States Mexico Canada Agreement is a major achievement for President Trump and a very big bipartisan win for the American people. WE should all take care, republican or democrat, that this is good.”             

National Corn Growers Association President Kevin Ross says their organization thanks the Senators who voted to “ensure corn farmers will continue to have access to our largest and most reliable markets.” Ross says they are especially grateful for Grassley’s leadership saying he “has been a steadfast supporter of corn growers and committed to get USCMA across the finish line.”

American Coalition for Ethanol CEO Brian Jennings says “Although USMCA doesn’t set ethanol specific trade provisions, its ratification positively reaffirms this long standing relationship with markets next door as we enter into this new decade of market growth.”
