DNC Host Committee to hold three community conversations across Milwaukee

Leaders of the Democratic National Convention announced Thursday three community conversations to provide updates related to volunteer opportunities, business-related opportunities tied to the convention and what residents and businesses can expect logistically during the July event.

The Milwaukee 2020 Host Committee and Democratic National Convention Committee scheduled sessions on the north and south sides of the city and downtown.

The host committee described the sessions as part of leadership's efforts to reduce barriers to the convention for residents and businesses across the city.

In September, the host committee changed the rules so that Milwaukee restaurants, bars and other venues do not need to make donations to the DNC to be listed on the convention's event directory.

That month, the host committee also announced it would hold 10 events with Milwaukee Public Schools to discuss topics such as civic engagement.

In a news release, Liz Gilbert, president of the Milwaukee 2020 Host Committee, said she wants to ensure all Milwaukee residents know they are welcome to get involved.

“We know that widespread community participation will be essential to our success,” she said. “From their interest in volunteering to capitalizing on business opportunities, Milwaukeeans continue to impress us with their excitement to be a part of this convention.”

The Democratic National Convention will be held in Milwaukee July 13-16. It is expected to attract 50,000 people. The community conversations will be held:
