I like to keep up with All the people that continue to purchase the 2019 Reverse Proof Palladium.

It was Overpriced at $1,987.50 with a MTD mintage…

  4. Buddy says

It’s almost as if someone said beforehand the best time to sell the 2019-s ASE would be about three weeks after release.

  5. Hawkster says

    Buddy,
Don’t say the three weeks after release is the best time thing to Coin Guy Mike, who is parading out the 2019 ERP silver eagle for a whopping $4,400 on several of his many airings tomorrow (12/31) on HSN. These eagles are, of course, 70’s, which is no big deal, especially since the grading company is ANACS.

And the sad thing is that there will be viewers of HSN who will be suckered into buying this offering.

  6. Hawkster says

Free shipping on the above item? You’d think so, but no. It will be an additional $25.22. But at least an wooden display box is thrown in.

Re: the 2019 S Enhanced Reverse Proof American Silver Eagles. This particular “specialty” coin is still a hot item, but demand is starting to cool off. Best thing to do is to wait until at least the next hottest coin hits the market. More attention will be diverted to the new item, demand will fall for the 2019-S coin, and prices will start to fall.

  12. Birddog says

Mike on HSN has proof 70 2019 s enhanced from NGC 1st day from Baltimore show for a mere $8000.00,he said he had people at the show and as they were leaving the show with the coin from Baltimore ,they were paying them 4500.00 for the coin,i do not believe that,by they way i think he said the NGC regular labels ,which he did not say which label proof 70 he had for 4600.00 and sold apox. 30 of them earlier in the day. i would not buy a bag of dog crap from that guy

  13. Birddog says

At this fleecing, they should have AT LEAST DROPPED the MINTAGE to 10,000

    Good Luck with That!

  21. Datadave says

The P pucks were a hard sell at $155, at $178 they will be lucky to sell 12k of the final 6 designs. I can’t imagine anyone other than set collectors will spring for them at that price. Ugh!

  22. Brad says

The price of the Reverse Proof American Innovation dollars went up from $9.95 to $11.50. They already weren’t selling that well at $9.95. I guess the mintage limit of those will likely end up falling to 50,000 or less later in the program.

  23. Peter Perpetua III says

I just received an E-mail from the mint that says I am now in the loyalty program. Is this their way of making up to all the people over the RP ASE fiasco ? Are throwing us a bone worth $14.85 ?

  25. CaliSkier says

As, “Sure as Ship”, you’re “Spot” on Cag, on so many levels!!! Holy smokes! Well at least I absolutely and completely know, I am done with US Mint direct products moving forward! I’ll be thankful for my gathering/collection as of now. Prices were already difficult to justify(?), even though typically cheaper than other world mints? The ONLY purchase I’d consider moving forward would be for a Pd, Pt, or Au, however spot would have to be below $800 and THAT isn’t going to happen!!! I’ll have to p/u the 2020 P ATB pucks on the 2ndary market, which shouldn’t prove too difficult at some point? I could see all of these(2020) becoming key dates due to lack of demand from collector fatigue in conjunction with the price increase! My prediction for US Mint overall sales for 2020? They have created the perfect storm for ALL time lowest sale$$$! Flippers and dealers beware! Only way this price increase could work is if spot At jump to $25! We all know though that the Mint would suspend sales and increase their prices. The Mint will continue to lose more and more customers, with their already high and higher prices!!

Cag you absolutely nailed it!!! Happy New Year to All and good luck!

  26. Mintman says

15% increases pretty much across there board——what’s driving the price increase? Must be those damn Govt pensions and salaries.
Only in the public sector could a entity believe they could raise prices 15% in one year.
    What a joke.
I foresee less and less revenue for the USM.

  27. Hawkster says

Has anyone who owns one or more of the 2011 50th anniversary silver eagle sets recently looked at their set(s)? In the two sets I have, the W proof eagle has significant orange tarnishing in the bottom area of the obverse. I haven’t even pulled the capsule out of the holder to see what the reverse side looks like, as I was so disgusted.

The only thing which I think may have caused the tarnishing is that the silver eagle proofs designated for the sets were exposed for a long period to the air at the West Point facility before being encapsulated. Who knows what chemicals are in the air at a minting facility.

It seems that the 2011 W silver eagle proofs that were sold as separate issues were not affected with tarnishing, judging by those for sale on eBay.

  28. Sherril says

I have never looked at my 2011 set since I first got it to see if it has changed,I thought those were air tight capsules?I got an email saying I have already qualified for free shipping and I haven’t even bought anything yet???????????I wonder if it has anything to do with me cancelling all of my enrollments??

  29. Sherril says

Pinehusrst coins has raised their price $10.00 on ebay from 2 days ago for the PF70 silver eagles???

  30. Brad says

    Hawkster,

I had retained three of my 2011 25th Anniversary Silver Eagle Sets, and two of them had developed the problem you mentioned, same coin. The third set was still pristine.

  31. says

Could the price increase have anything to do with packaging? If the packaging comes from China it could be effected by the tariffs, trade war, etc. It doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the price of PM.

  32. birddog says

like to tell a story about proof silver eagles. i have all of them ,quit buying in 2018,went to my local coin dealer ,we are friends ,very nice guy, have bought and sold many items though the years ,i was thinking about selling my proof silver eagle collection.,he said he would only be interested the 93,94,95 the rest a little above silver price ,he said there just is no demand for them other than those years, offer just a little above silver eagle price, which back then was not very much ,he told me i would be better to just hang on to them.My point is the price they want for these proof eagle at 64.50 apiece it is just not worth it and to pay even more for the hype in proof 70 labels is even a bigger waste of money

  33. Erik H says

2% inflation or 15% inflation? Looks like the mint is telling us what the real number is.

  34. johnaz says

mike on HSN pay up on your back taxs in phoenix,az with all those coins you are selling.I e-mail the taxs borad in phoenix my be I will get a reward I told them to watch his show on HSN how he sale thousand of dollars in coins,he own over 230,000 in state taxs for coins sale.

  35. IJTR says

According to the same government that has raised the deficit by 50% this year and robbed seniors by lowering interest rates to nearly zero again, the rate of inflation is less than 3%. The extra buck iinflationary value of silver was already factored in to mint pricing of silver eagles many years ago.

Keep in mind no matter what you pay, they still will only bring $12 or less when you go to sell them to a dealer or a pawn shop.

  36. Ron says

I also got an email from USM stating that I had free standard shipping, because I had made three qualifying purchases in the past.
I was going to purchase the 2020 Proof ASE until I saw the price. There is only one item I need to complete my set and I may wait for the secondary market, what a shame that the USM has done to the hobby.
The last item I purchased, I got an email that it had shipped, so I went to track it a week later and it hadn’t even been sent to FedEx, when I called they said it was going out today, (week after they said had shipped).

  37. Hawkster says

It’s also possible that the 2011 W proof silver eagles that went into the 25th anniversary set were, after being minted, placed vertically, with Lady Liberty upright, in cardboard holders having a sulfur content, as it is the bottom area of these coins where the tarnishing is showing up. The orange color of the tarnish could indicate a reaction to sulfur contamination. By the time they were encapsulated, the coins were already compromised.
The tarnishing is not, therefore, a result of the environment in which they were kept by their owners, as evidenced by similar reports of the tarnishing taking place at the lower part of the coin.

  38. Steve says

    To Birddog,
I wonder why your dealer friend would only be interested in the ‘93,’94,’95 silver eagles. Nothing unusual about those mintages. Anyway, silver will eventually go up in price and there will be demand for all the silver eagles.

  39. birddog says

STEVE,the 93,94,95 are the low mintages and he can move those and they are worth something but the rest of them are no demand right now,but to pay the price the mint wants for a 19.00 piece of silver is nuts, you might have hang on to it forever before you get anything back on your return

  40. Tom says

The last time the mint increased their prices many complained and swore to never buy from them again. And yet, they did. The mint prospered, laughing all the way to the bank. The mint is like a drug dealer. Dealing to those hooked and wanting more at any price.

  41. KC&SO says

@ birddog – that’s for sharing your story, that’s quite disappointing to hear about a complete ASE set, good luck to you with how ever you decide to proceed.

For what it’s worth – For the last several days I have assessing what all I have amassed over the past 14 years and bouncing it off the current secondary market value, and it’s eye watering. While the gold and some special sets (C&C’s, ASE sets, unique one-off’s) have held up good, or appreciated, …most silver and clad is as you describe.

It’s a great time to be a buyer on the secondary market though I refuse to give it away. Therefore, like you, I plan to just squirrel it away for another day (or decade) and gift a lot more if it away.

With that said, many non collectors folks out there like coins, they just don’t collect or have the means to do so, therefore I’ll be gifting more of it away than contribute to FleaBay’s bottom line and go through the redass of selling on Bay. With the UNC $1 sets, they’ll be broken and the ASE put in a capsule and I’ll spend the $1 coins. Clad sets will be distributed in the local economy.

  42. KC&SO says

U.S. Mint’s email regarding Buyer Program and free standard shipping –

Same email went out at the beginning of last year (2019), then USM then sent out a secondary notice that it was in error.

Once the USM figures out that the mistake was made (again), look for a follow up email.

5z pucks are minimal winners @ best except for HI & AK & year one models (bullions) P’s have virtually no leg$ in the aftermarket. I have surrendered any ‘loyalty’ to the USM, went from buying several K$ a year to 5 rocket ship sets this year. Done the ASE RP has really been “IT” for me personally. Raise price$ as high they want I pass, it will be a slow agonizing death for the mint & it’s marektplace, between price & the gawdaful designs I feel no loss. Don’t even care about the Morgan Peace thing……..why because they’ll F it up for sure……
