According to the 2019 Verizon Data Breach Investigations report, 62 percent of data breaches involved the use of stolen credentials, brute force, or phishing. Although attackers are becoming more sophisticated, well-worn tactics like phishing, credential stuffing, password spraying, and brute force attacks are still widely used for a simple reason: They’re effective!

While that number would keep any security professional up at night, there are a variety of tools that can drastically reduce the chance of breaches. In fact, some estimate that implementing just one tool can reduce the likelihood by 99.9 percent. That tool? Multi-factor authentication.

Choice Matters

While Citrix Workspace can support multi-factor authentication natively with time-based, one-time passwords, we believe in providing our customers with choice. By now, you probably know Citrix Workspace is the place to simplify getting work done – to boost productivity and to improve the employee experience.

It’s critical to keep the workspace secure and protect the data that resides in apps and documents that can be accessed through Citrix Workspace. This includes enabling them to have the choice of leveraging existing investments with other security providers to support their holistic security strategies.

That’s why Citrix is pleased to announce that we’ve partnered with Duo Security, now part of Cisco, to help our joint customers secure their Citrix Workspace environments. With this partnership, customers can use Duo for multi-factor authentication to secure the login process for their end users.

Duo offers eight different MFA methods, including mobile apps, push notifications, offline options, WebAuthn, security keys, and more. Customers can choose the authentication methods that best fit their security strateg.

The integration of Duo’s multi-factor authentication capabilities for end-user access to Citrix Workspace will bolster any organization’s security posture. Additionally, Citrix Gateway can provide contextual access to organizational resources by evaluating the end user’s location, identity, network, and endpoint health. If the user satisfies the requirements defined by the organization’s security team, they’re authorized to access their resources. If they’re out of policy, Citrix Gateway restricts access or provides limited capabilities within the session.

When organizations combine multi-factor authentication from Duo with the powerful contextual access capabilities of Citrix Gateway, they vastly improve the security posture in their organizations. They have a line of defense against common attacks like phishing, credential stuffing, password spraying, and brute force.
