Former MSOE student charged with wearing gun in dorm

An 18-year-old Milwaukee man has been charged with having a gun at a Milwaukee School of Engineering dormitory.

Rashad M. Muhammad faces a single count of possessing a firearm on the grounds of a school, a felony punishable by up to two years in prison and 18 months of extended supervision.

The Milwaukee School of Engineering's Grohmann Tower apartment building at 233 East Juneau Ave.in Milwaukee.

According to the criminal complaint:

Someone anonymously texted MSOE security that someone had a gun in the dorm on Saturday. Police went to the Margaret Loock Residence Hall, knocked on Room 212 and Muhammad answered. He matched the description sent by the tipster and admitted he had a gun. He showed police that the handgun was in his waistband.

Muhammad told police he found the gun, a .380 Cobra, and knew he was not supposed to have it in the dorm. He said he had been enrolled at MSOE but stopped attending earlier this month.
