Fort Myers man killed in fatal crash on Alligator Alley in Collier

The lanes for eastbound traffic on Alligator Alley were shut down Friday night at mile marker 101 near the toll booths due to a two-vehicle crash at mile marker 83, according to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper said about 8 p.m. Friday that the lanes would remain closed for two to four more hours. About 8:30 p.m., law enforcement authorities  at Collier Boulevardwere blocking access to the cross-state stretch of Interstate 75.

The crash about 5:30 p.m. killed the driver of a westbound SUV that crossed the grassy median and hit the left side of an eastbound semi cab, the Highway Patrol reported. Fort Myers resident Joseph L. Leflore, 37, who was driving a 2014 Land Rover, was pronounced dead at the scene, FHP stated.

The semi cab driver, Noidis Anes Olivares, 35, of Miami, suffered only minor injuries and declined transport to a hospital.

Collier County Emergency Medical Services responded to the crash, which FHP continued to investigate Friday night. Anyone with information about the crash can contact FHP at 239-938-1800 or *FHP (*347) on a cellphone.
