Farmers for Free Trade identifies top priorities after USMCA

The Co-Executive Director of Farmers for Free trade says now that congress is making headway with the USMCA they have three top priorities going into 2020.

Brian Kuehl tells Brownfield resolving the trade war with China is at the top of the list.

“The trade war with China is just killing us. It is causing farm bankruptcies to up. It is really squeezing farmers.”

Kuehl says they also want to work on opening new markets and engage with the World Trade Organization.

“It creates the rules for trade, is makes sure trade is fair and balanced. We need to invest in that effort and really make sure that the WTO is a functioning body that can allow us to trade with certainty.”

He reminds farmers that trade is not a “spectator sport” and that they need to be engaged with their lawmakers, local news outlets and neighbors to have their voices heard.

Brownfield interviewed Kuehl at Illinois Farm Bureau’s Annual Meeting.
