Minnesota Farmers Union pleased with USMCA healthcare changes

The Minnesota Farmers Union is pleased with revisions to the original U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement.

MFU president Gary Wertish says eliminating the 10-year protection period for biologic drugs will help keep prescription drug prices down as farmers deal with escalating healthcare costs.

He says House Democrats and Trade Ambassador Lighthizer also addressed some labor and environmental concerns that were part of the initial deal proposed last year.

As the full text of the USMCA has not been released, Wertish says MFU will pause before making conclusive judgement on the agreement.

But he’s encouraged that a deal has been reached, saying family farmers need certainty during these hard economic times.
