RFA makes case for ethanol at Climate Change Conference

The Renewable Fuels Association made a compelling case for ethanol during last week’s U.N. Climate Change Conference.

CEO Geoff Cooper says while in Madrid, RFA highlighted a recent study about biofuel consumption under the RFS.

“The message is really pretty simple. With ethanol, we have today a tool that is immediately available at a large scale to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transportation. And not just in the United States.”

He tells Brownfield ethanol is a low-cost product that can be easily shipped overseas.

“We have countries around the world that have made commitments as part of the Paris Treaty to reducing emissions of greenhouse gases in their countries. And we’re there to remind them that ethanol is an excellent way to do that.”

RFA also shared USDA research at the Climate Change Conference that shows corn ethanol reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 43 percent compared to gasoline.  Cooper says the potential reduction could be as high as 70 percent within three years.
