Child, 8, injured in shooting at N. 58th & W. Helena streets on Milwaukee's northwest side

An 8-year-old suffered a gunshot wound Wednesday afternoon and is expected to survive, Milwaukee police said.

Police responded about 4:30 p.m. to the shooting in the 5800 block of West Helena Street, and paramedics took the child to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.

Police arrested a 21-year-old man and will recommend prosecutors charge him with recklessly endangering safety. Officers also recovered the handgun used in the shooting.
