Ag groups and officials pleased with USMCA progress

Many ag groups and officials are pleased with the progress on the USMCA.

Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue says the agreement is a big win for American workers and the economy. He says he is encouraged by today’s breakthrough and that the House and Senate need to work diligently to pass the USMCA by Christmas.

American Farm Bureau President Zippy Duvall encouraged Congress to quickly ratify the USMCA as agriculture is at a critical crossroads with low commodity prices and losses from natural disasters and the trade war.

National Corn Growers Association President Kevin Ross says today’s announcement brings the US one step closer to ratifying the agreement and securing trade relationships with Mexico and Canada. He says it’s been a tough year for farmers who need the certainty this agreement would provide.

National Grain and Feed Association President and CEO Randy Gordon commends US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and House leaders on reaching an agreement over enforcement issues. He says ratifying the agreement quickly will be a win for the US and its North American trading partners.

The US Wheat Associates and National Association of Wheat Growers say today’s signing of the renegotiated USMCA is a welcome step toward a final agreement that will benefit wheat growers and the entire agriculture industry.

NAWG President and Texas Farmer Ben Scholz says they are hopeful today’s news will motivate Congress to vote on the agreement before the end of the year.
