MASON — The Mason Police Department is investigating after a Mason High School student reported being assaulted by a staff member at the school on Thursday.

Police opened an investigation after school district officials called to share the student's allegation. The student did not report any injuries, according to a press release from Mason Police Chief Don Hanson that was issued Monday.

"The Mason Police Department has been in contact with a parent(s) of the student," Hanson said, in the press release. "Due to a student being involved and the matter being open, no additional details will be released at this time."

Superintendent Ronald Drzewicki said Tuesday that the teacher, who he declined to identify, was placed on paid, non-disciplinary leave pending the results of the criminal investigation and an internal school investigation.

He declined to share any further details of the reported assault.

"Once we have a complete understanding of the situation, we will take action as needed," Drzewicki said.

Officials from King Media, which represent the school district, also declined to share further details, but said in a press release Monday the incident does not affect the safety of students or staff.

"Mason Public Schools takes all concerns seriously," Drzewicki said, in the press release. "We are committed to providing a positive learning environment for our students."
