Delta Allowing Elite Members More Control Over Seat Upgrades

0

It’s a day of positive loyalty program changes. Choice Hotels has introduced Rollover Nights, while Delta is now providing elite members with more control over how their seat upgrades are processed.

Delta Comfort Plus Upgrades

Prior to today, upgrades to Comfort+ were processed as follows for SkyMiles Medallion members:

  • Diamond & Platinum – directly after ticketing
  • Gold – 72 hours before departure
  • Silver – 24 hours before departure

That’s not changing; what is changing is the control you have over what seats you’re upgraded too.

One frustrating element of these automatic upgrades is that sometimes you’d be upgraded to a middle seat in Comfort+. If you had an exit row seat and/or an aisle seat in Main Cabin, you might prefer to retain that seat rather than be sandwiched between two other Comfort+ passengers.

With these changes, you can adjust your preferences for each individual flight. When logging in online or in the Delta app, you can request that they only upgrade you if they have a window and/or aisle seat available in Comfort+.

Note that this won’t change your global settings, so you’ll need to log in before each flight if you want to adjust your standard upgrade policy settings before your flight.

If you have an aisle or window seat in Comfort+, this could have the additional benefit of reducing the likelihood of someone upgrading to the middle seat, making Comfort+ even more comfortable.
