Driver killed in early morning crash near downtown Milwaukee

A 26-year-old man was killed early Friday in a single-vehicle crash near downtown Milwaukee.

The crash was reported shortly before 1:30 a.m. in the 1400 block of North Water Street, police said.

The man lost control of the vehicle, which struck a tree, according to a news release.

He was the sole occupant of the vehicle and died at the scene, police said.

High speed was a factor in the crash, which remained under investigation Friday, police said.
