Rumors swirl following comment period for supplemental biofuels proposal

The CEO of the Renewable Fuels Association says the rumor mill is spinning now that the comment period for EPA’s supplemental biofuels proposal has ended.

Geoff Cooper tells Brownfield he’s hopeful the thousands of comments calling for the rule to account for actual gallons waived made a difference.

“There’s been some reporting that the White House is reevaluating the EPA proposal, and there’s been some discussion that EPA is revisiting a few things.”

Bloomberg reports White House economic advisor Larry Kudlow is developing a plan to bolster biofuel blending requirements.

“What we are hearing is that there is a growing recognition within the Administration, both at the White House and at EPA, that EPA’s supplemental proposal doesn’t guarantee that the 15 billion-gallon requirement that appears in the law will truly be enforced.”

Cooper is hearing the final rule could be announced very soon.  He says he expects it to be consistent with promises made by President Trump.
