Evansville man arrested after crashing into house during police chase

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — An Evansville man was arrested after a police chase early Thursday morning.

An officer tried to pull over Codey Ritchison, 28, after an alleged traffic violation, according to a news release from the Evansville Police Department.

Ritchison stopped at first but then drove quickly away, sending police on a chase.

He reportedly lost control of his truck and crashed it into a house in the 300 block of Maxwell Avenue.

Ritchison then fled the scene but was detained after a brief foot chase, according to police.

Police said they found a loaded handgun in his truck bed and meth in his pocket.

He was booked into Vanderburgh County's jail around 1:45 a.m. Thursday on the following preliminary charges:

  • resisting law enforcement
  • possession of a handgun by a felon
  • possession of methamphetamine
  • driving without ever receiving a license
  • reckless driving
  • hit and run

Ritchison is currently being held without bond, according to online jail records.
