The Warren Fire Department battled a house fire Saturday night after the home exploded, according to a Warren Police Department Sgt. Jared Spybrook.

Spybrook said the residents were not in the home at the time of the explosion.

The home was located on Le Fever Road, north of 8 Mile. Warren Mayor Jim Fouts said the home, a 1950s brick bungalow, was leveled by a gas explosion.

“There’s nothing left but the basement," Fouts said. "The good news is, the mother, father and son — all adults — were all at work. No one was home. But there’s belongings and goods scattered throughout the neighborhood” and a nearby house was damaged.

Fouts said residents of the street were ordered earlier to evacuate but have been allowed to return as utility workers and police secured the area.

“The gas company is investigating but right now they don’t know the cause.”

Firefighters clean up the site of a house explosion at Le Fever Ave. in Warren, Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019. The explosion occurred before 6 pm and is still under investigation.
