Saturday's college basketball: Central Michigan continues unbeaten run at home

Mount Pleasant — Kevin McKay scored 24 points and 11 rebounds, his 14th career double-double, as Central Michigan defeated Youngstown State 88-72 on Saturday.

David DiLeo added 16 points for Central Michigan (6-2), which remained undefeated at home. Devontae Lane added 14 points and seven assists. Rob Montgomery had 10 points, eight rebounds and three blocks.

With a once-healthy lead dwindling to six points, McKay and DiLeo sparked a 12–6 run for the Chippewas, McKay scoring seven points including a dunk, and DiLeo added five.

Donel Cathcart III had 18 points for the Penguins (4-4). Michael Akuchie added 14 points. Naz Bohannon had 3 points and 16 rebounds.

The Penguins trailed by 16 eight minutes into the second half, but Akuchie scored 10 of his 14 to spark an 18-6 run and Youngstown State came as close as 65-59.

Central Michigan matches up against UT Martin at home on Friday. Youngstown State faces Robert Morris at home on Wednesday.

Detroit Mercy's Antoine Davis

(At) Ohio 91, Detroit Mercy 81: Ben Vander Plas scored six straight points to spark a closing rally and Ohio fended off a second-half surge from Detroit Mercy. Detroit trailed by 25 but Antoine Davis, who scored 26 of his 33 points in the second half, sliced that to 77-76, nailing a 3-pointer with just over four minutes left.

Jordan Dartis scored 26 points to lead Ohio, Jason Preston added 20. Dartis hit 6 of 9 3-pointers. Preston also had 12 assists and eight rebounds. Sylvester Ogbonda added 11 points and eight rebounds.

Davis was 12-for-26 shooting with four 3-pointers for the Titans (1-5), but he also had nine of the Titans 14 turnovers, He dished eight assists. Willy Isiani added 15 points, Justin Miller 12.

(At) Toledo 65, Oakland 63: Luke Knapke scored 17 points and Marreon Jackson carried Toledo down the stretch as the Rockets edged Oakland. Jackson scored the Rockets’ final eight points, first hitting a free throw then a 3-pointer for a 61-57 lead. He added another jumper and his layup with 3:48 remaining gave Toledo its final points of the game. The Rockets allowed only four points in the final three minutes to win.

Spencer Littleson had 14 points for Toledo (5-2), which earned its fourth straight home victory. Jackson added 13 points and six assists and Willie Jackson had 14 rebounds for the Rockets.

Blake Lampman had 18 points for the Golden Grizzlies (4-4). Xavier Hill-Mais added 14 points and Brad Brechting scored 13. Oakland goes to Western Michigan on Tuesday. Toledo plays at Cleveland St. on Wednesday.

(At) UC-Irvine 77, Eastern Michigan 56: Collin Welp had a career-high 31 points. Welp made 12 of 14 shots, including 7 of 9 on 3-pointers.

Eyassu Worku had 11 points for UC Irvine (5-4).

Boubacar Toure had 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Eagles (6-1), whose six-game season-opening winning streak ended with the loss. Ty Groce added 10 points. Chris Barnes had 10 points.

Yeikson Montero, who led the Eagles in scoring coming into the matchup with 12 points per game, had 5 points on 2-of-13 shooting.

UC Irvine takes on California Baptist at home next Saturday. Eastern Michigan takes on Valparaiso at home on Tuesday.

No. 17 Tennessee 72, No. 20 VCU: Lamonte Turner made a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give No. 17 Tennessee a victory in the Emerald Coast Classic third-place game.

John Fulkerson led Tennessee (6-1) with 17 points and seven rebounds. Jordan Bowden added 14 points and Turner scored 12 for the Vols.

Marcus Santos-Silva led VCU (6-2) with 22 points and De’Riante Jenkins had 15.

No. 25 Xavier 87, Lipscomb 62: Tyrique Jones had his fourth double-double of the season, Paul Scruggs scored 15 points, and Xavier recovered from its first loss by beating Lipscomb. The Musketeers (7-1) were coming off 70-65 loss to Florida in the championship game of the Charleston Classic.

Lipscomb (2-5) was led by freshman point guard KJ Johnson, who had a season-high 25 points. Ahsan Asadullah added 18 points and nine rebounds.

State women

No. 15 Michigan State 65, Kansas State 60: In Bimini, Bahamas, Nia Clouden and Shay Colley combined for 31 points as Michigan State bounced back from its first loss of the season at the Junkanoo Jam.

The Spartans rallied in the fourth quarter with a 10-0 run that produced a six-point lead after two Alyza Winston free throws with 42.7 seconds to go. After the Wildcats got a Christianna Carr 3-pointer to make it a one-possession game, Clouden made a pair from the foul line at 23 seconds and K-State failed to hit another shot.

Clouden had 16 points and Colley 15 for the Spartans (6-1), who lost to LSU in their first game. Tory Ozment added 12 points.

Freshman Ayoka Lee had 22 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks, all career highs, for Kansas State (3-3). Peyton Williams had 17 points and 10 rebounds.

(At) Central Michigan 77, Marist 54: Micaela Kelly dropped in 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting, including four 3-pointers, as Central won its third straight to reach .500 (3-3). Kyra Bussell had 18 points and Mackenna Kelly added 10 for the Chippewas, who pulled away with a 23-11 run in the third quarter. Sarah Barcello scored 16 while Rebekah Hard and Alana Gilmer each had 15 for Marist (5-1).

Western Michigan 79, New Mexico State 76: In El Paso, Texas, Jordan Walker scored 26 points and Leighah-Amori Wood had 22 points and 15 rebounds as Western (3-3) rolled to victory in the consolation game at the UTEP Thanksgiving Classic. Gia Pack had 29 points to lead New Mexico State (1-7).

Tennessee Tech 69, (at) Detroit Mercy 47: Mackenzie Coleman scored 18 for Tennessee Tech (4-3). Marhyia McCormick scored 15 and Zoey Oatis 11 for Detroit Mercy (0-8).
